Artwork for Pizza Hut

Pizza Hut is one of the world’s largest restaurant systems with a pro-active approach to international expansion. They make sure their décor is always vibrant and on trend through an intensive works program of refurbishments and new builds.

The Brief
This family-friendly, restaurant-chain required bespoke designs to help conjure a ‘home from home’ style ambience. I was asked to supply a number of concepts to suit the corporate interior schemes, for discussion with their designers.

The artwork was not to be perceived as anything that might be attained off the high street, although the atmosphere was intentionally homely it was still supposed to be a distinct step from eating in someone’s home; recognisable people, places or other assets would potentially cause subjective preferences and dislikes which could have been related back to the brand.

The Solution
The digital abstract designs I presented were each designed with the store in mind, each designed to work in combination or in a singular context and each in a colour way that complimented the store. These first concepts were well received and started a core range of imagery which was displayed in restaurants as canvas prints nationwide.

This long-term on-going relationship gave a fascinating insight into corporate design structure. The designs changed over time, along with the corporate image and advertising campaigns. Focus lay only in high quality, system-led artwork for a quick-turn around by the architects and fitters; as well as producing guidelines and procedures to aid the management of the projects.
